Twitter officially announced the closing of the macOS version of TweetDeckthe famous application that allows you to view the social media feed through a practical subdivision into columns that users can customize to show tweets belonging to certain categories and more.
Farewell to the current version of TweetDeck – which will happen from next July 1st – has been around for some time, especially since the company began work on the next version – currently in the Preview phase – which is currently accessible by invitation only. For the occasion, Twitter confirmed that many more invitations for the Preview will soon be sent and that users will still be able to continue accessing TweetDeck through the web version of the service (available at this link).
The purpose of the closure is precisely that of move the focus to the new versionbut the news did not find very positive opinions by the public, who hinted at their disappointment with this decision by replying to the official announcement. The main criticisms are that TweetDeck’s future will be mainly based on the web version, while many want a specific app.
Still others – like Matt Navarra’s GeekOut – argue that the service may stop being free to be incorporated into the Twitter Blue subscription, although there is currently no concrete evidence of this. In any case, the fate of the current version is now sealed.
